Installing the Roundpoint software

Before you can load any content onto your PDA, you need to install Subscription Manager and at least one subscription file. Our sign-up pages will help you with this, but if you have any problems or need to set up your subscription on a different computer, just follow these instructions:

Please note: at the moment we only support automated downloading in Windows. Support for Mac OSX and Linux is under development.

Subscription Manager

1. Download Subscription Manager from our Download Center.

2. Double-click on the downloaded file and follow the instructions. We recommend that you choose the option "Subscription Manager will begin when Windows starts", otherwise you will have to start it manually each time you want to download the latest content. If you choose this, you probably do not need the other option, "Place Subscription Manager's icon on the desktop" - but it's entirely your choice.

If you chose "Run Subscription Manager now", you will see a Roundpoint icon in your System Tray (in the bottom righthand corner of your screen, next to the clock) once the installation finishes. If it is not there, double-click on the Roundpoint icon on your desktop, or tap on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen and select Programs -> Roundpoint -> Subscription Manager.

Subscription Manager is a background process, which means it runs quietly in the background and only springs into action when it is time to download new content. You can tell when Subscription Manager is downloading content, as the icon animates and the center red dot grows and shrinks repeatedly.

You can check on its status at any time by right-clicking on the icon in the System Tray and selecting "Show Window" from the pop-up menu.

Subscription Files

For each subscription you take out, you will receive an email from Roundpoint with a file named [title of publication].rps. You will need to install this into Subscription Manager so that it knows where to download your content files from. You should save this file, e.g. in My Documents, so that you can reinstall it again if need be.

To install your subscription, just double-click on the .rps file and it will install itself into Subscription Manager. If you open the Subscription Manager window as described above, you will see that your new subscription is listed in the main window, and any PDAs that you currently sync with this PC should be listed in the far righthand column.

Downloading your first edition

When you set up your subscription, Subscription Manager will automatically create a schedule for downloading each issue. You can see the time that Subscription Manager will next perform a download by looking at the 'Next Download' column in the main window. To get your first edition immediately, follow these instructions:

1. Open Subscription Manager if it is not already open, by right-clicking on the icon in the System Tray and selecting "Show Window" from the pop-up menu.

2. Highlight the subscription of your choice by clicking on it.

3. Press the "Download" button on the left side of the Subscription Manager Window.

Finding your mobile edition on your Palm

1. Press the Sync button on your Palm device cradle.

2. Wait until synchronization is complete.

3. Tap the "Applications" or "Home" icon on your device, and choose the "Unfiled" view from the dropdown list in the top righthand corner.

4. Look for the Roundpoint icon and /or title of your mobile edition.

5. Tap on the icon or title to lauch the application. Enjoy!

Finding your mobile edition on your Pocket PC

1. Tap the Windows Icon on the upper left corner of the screen.

2. Tap on Programs.

3. Tap on Roundpoint Sites.

4. Look for your mobile edition and tap once on it. Enjoy!
